Who should Bayern Munich sign to replace Thiago?

Bayern Munich’s current situation!

Bayern Munich are arguably the best team in Europe right now. The excellent management of Hansi Flick has seen the Bavarians destroy every opposition they have faced in 2020. Not very complicated, Flick plays a 4-2-3-1 with high energy pressing from the front. With the ball, their game is based on quick and tricky wingers like Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Ivan Perisic. Leroy Sane’s inclusion will make them unplayable next season.

However, Bayern lack strength in depth in the central midfield area. With Thiago’s departure looking imminent, the Bavarians will need to recruit a younger and quality midfielder. There are quite a lot of names in the market that tick those necessary boxes.

Which are the options Bayern could find?

Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez was linked with Bayern last summer and still looks a good option. His qualities on the ball and his robust physicality are some of his best attributes. Ajax’s Donny Van De Beek is also mentioned, but his heart looks set for a move elsewhere in Spain. Napoli’s Fabian Ruiz would also be an excellent player for the Bavarians, should they look to make that move.

Who should they sign?

After our analysis, we have concluded that Lyon’s Housam Aouar would be the best for Hansi Flick’s side. The young Frenchman is an excellent overall central midfielder. Many pundits have said that he looks the younger version of Thiago. His young age and bright potential make him the best option.

His performances for Lyon have been outstanding. He scored three goals and assisted 4 in 25 league appearances this season. Aouar recorded a passing accuracy of 86% this season. He also registered 2.7 successful dribbles per 90. The most impressive stat here is that he completed more than four progressive passes per game. Defensively also strong, Aouar also completed one tackle per 90.

A midfield three of Goretzka, Kimmich, and Aouar would be fantastic. Such a young trio with so much quality would be great for this overall young Bayern side. However, Aouar faces Bayern tomorrow in the semi-finals, and it would be a fine opportunity for him to showcase his worth.
